Building liberatory, healing classrooms alongside
liberatory, healing education-leaders.

Our Mission

We provide transformative, holistic pedagogical training and coaching to educators, coaches, and education-leaders serving in historically and systematically marginalized communities so that they can lead liberatory, healing classrooms that center our students' identities and brilliance; igniting and nurturing their self-actualization and self-determination.

Every child, no matter their
identity or zip code
deserves the opportunity
to develop the promise
inside of them.

Our children deserve and are entitled to an education that unequivocally gives them this opportunity-- the type of education that the majority of our Black and Brown students growing up in systemically marginalized communities have historically and are presently being vastly denied.

an education that:

revolutionizes rigor and makes teaching and learning relevant and responsive to our students' identities, languages, literacies, cultural practices and lived experiences.

values and sustains the rich cultural and linguistic inheritance of our students and their communities.

provides students with the opportunities and agency to lead and shape our world.

an education that:

deeply believes in, continuously nurtures and reflects our students' inherent brilliance and infinite potential.

is grounded in joy, radical love and liberation.

"I want to thank Barbara for her amazing training! Excellent planning and facilitation -- engaging, interactive, thoughtful, challenging, relevant. The sessions were focused and built on one another. The opportunities for pair and small group collaboration and the choice time gave me agency over my learning!"

"Bárbara is authentic, intentional, and experienced. She brings her whole self to the work and creates the conditions for others to do the same. She designs PD experiences that take into consideration where all participants may be entering. The session she designed and facilitated at our winter retreat last fiscal year continues to be one people talk about as a highlight of their year and PD. A teammate shared feeling seen in a session for the first time... maybe ever. Bárbara DID THAT. She creates environments where all people thrive."

-jennie B.

“Bárbara’s deep content knowledge around Culturally Relevant-Sustaining Education was evident on first meeting her, as was her experience in teaching, training, and designing related to this area. She demonstrated a clear commitment to and passion for the work from the outset. Bárbara is a true expert in her field, but brings the humility and humanity of a lifelong learner to her work and collaboration, with listening and responsiveness at the center of her work.”

I am also a proud Brooklyn-born, Bronx-raised first-generation Latina who has worked with and trained hundreds of leaders globally committed to liberatory pedagogy, to transforming themselves and transforming our world.

I believe we are meant to activate the promise inside of us and were born to more than just survive.  As educators and education-leaders we have the honor, privilege, opportunity and responsibility to create classrooms that center and nurture our students inherent brilliance and power... and this work includes doing this for ourselves.

Questions & Answers

How do I know if Love and Liberation is right for me?

If you are an educator, instructional coach or school leader who is interested in anchoring their work in Liberatory Pedagogy, is ready to expand their impact through strengthening and deepening their practice, and is committed to engaging in the self-work necessary to do so,
Love and Liberation is a perfect fit
for you.

What is the format for the training?

Love and Liberation is intentionally designed to be a mix of synchronous and asynchronous work. We will meet virtually in order to engage in content and learning together. In between our  sessions, participants will engage in pre-work that is designed to prepare and strengthen their learning and reflection. (Interested in bringing this training to your school or district? Let's schedule a chat to explore customized support.)

WHAT Do you mean by "holistic" Pedagogical training?

Our training pays equal attention to  the “who” as well as to the “what and how” of Liberatory pedagogy -
the BEING and the DOING.

We strongly believe that in order to be true Liberatory practitioners; to do this work powerfully and with fidelity, we must begin (and continue to) engage in the work of liberating (and healing) ourselves.

We're creating a global movement of
liberatory practitioners who are changing the educational experience of our children growing up in systemically and historically marginalized communities to one that is
transformative, empowering and liberatory.
